  • Is it so easy???

When I was young, when I was in my High School, I used to be told that once you passed the STPM, which was one of the toughest high school examination in the world, you will find university syllabus to be very easy and you can enjoy your first and second year of university.

Sometimes, things are easier said than done. How am I supposed to know that this theory doesn't apply to NUS???!!!

So, when people tell you that university life is easy, doubt it. However, that doesn't mean university life in NUS is not enjoyable.

Here, you get to listen to alot of cynical and mind-blogging ideas. 'Increasing penalty on any crime will leads to a even higher rate of crime', or how to solve sudoku in 2 seconds. I wonder if other universities teach similar thing as these...

  • Quiz...

Now that you have read the CHEMISTRY jokes, here's a question from Luke.

Which animal is the most active sexually??

    Answer in few day later....

  • Jokes

Hell- Explained by a chemistry student (luckily NUS do not ask Chem questions like this, lol)

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term.

The answer, by one student, was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

    This gives two possibilities:

    1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

    2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

    So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and taking into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night,
Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

  • NTU and NUS talk in SAM TET

    Dear ex-form 6 student:

HAHA, In this coming friday,16 May 2008, morning 10 a.m. our senior from NUS and NTU will be back to SAM TET school to give a briefing, as well as Q&A session.

Please come back to school if you are interested, it's in lecture hall 2. In this way, you may even save the hectic bus trip to KL or Penang, at 24th and 25th of may respectively.

And as for your information, the Melia hotel, venue for NUS briefing on 24th may, is located just opposite of Times Square. If you are taking d bus to puduraya, you may go down from the bus at pudu jail(if the driver allow you), then walk about 5 minutes(really walk also 5 minutes only, not run), then you will see the Melia hotel just opposite of the Times square front door.

Or, you can go down at puduraya, walk back to times square, bout 20minutes gua...(if it's me, 10 minutes also can reach)

Or, you take the monorail at puduraya, go to Hang Tuah station, then change your monorail at Hang Tuah, go to Imbi station. BUT i can assure you, you will feel cheated if you take the monorail. =) coz d journey is too short. You can actually walk there....

Bout d penang venue, I have no idea on how to reach there, coz i never been there. So wish u good luck.

  • NUS and NTU admission procedure

Please get a copy of the notes from your friend for NTU briefing. I will not mention it.

Please go to NUS and NTU forum for more information.

    NUS: http://forum.nusmsl.org/

    NTU: http://www.ntumsa.org/wp/index.php

Below are something worth taking note of.

    Applying TFL( tuition fee loan)

Go to OCBC bank with your guarantor, sign in front of the OCBC officer.

The officer need to endorse on your form; sign and stamp OCBC chop on it.

Then u either take back the form and submit in singapore.

Or, the officer will process it directly for u, send it to s'pore on ur behalf. If this is the case, request for a photocopy of the completed form, and a stamp on it.

    Applying Tuition Grant

The process i won't mention, but take note that the notary public is not the commision of oath. It is the lawyer listed in the bar council website, or the high commisioner of s'pore. If u choose the former, you will need to pay some RM50 fee, but you can do it for free if you go to the singapore high commisioner and render the service of the latter.

    Opening Account in Malaysia

Since OCBC bank is the only one bank that u can find in m'sia, u can go to ocbc bank to open a bank account.

THis is for the ease of withdrawing money in s'pore. When u open d bank account, request for an EasiAccess International access ATM card, where u can withdraw money in s'pore from your account in m'sia at the cost of RM2.

If you choose to transfer money, they will charge u RM10( staff  rate) in M'sia, and SGD20 in S'pore. TT and bank draft would be too tedious and time consuming.

    Opening Account in Singapore

As a student, you can only open a bank account in s'pore if u have student pass or a letter from your university. If u r below 21 years old , u can use any amount of money to open an account, but if u r above 21 years old, u will need to put a deposit of SGD500 and maintain that amount in your account, if not they will charge u a penalty fee. Best if u choose DBS or POSB bank in S'pore, coz it has many ATM machine, and u can withdraw money from the two ATM machine mentioned, coz they have merged.

    Medical Checkup

For the medical checkup, DO IT IN SINGAPORE. To save the trouble and save your money. It's even cheaper to do it in s'pore. SGD35 for NTU and SGD45 for NUS. You can do it at the end of july, 21-25, or 28july-1 august.
